A Few Further Tales of Einarinn eBook Juliet E McKenna
Juliet McKenna's first series - Tales of Einarinn - has long been my favorite fantasy series, so this collection of short stories using the characters from that was of immediate interest to me. With the exception of the first, the stories are set in the gaps between the Tales of Einarinn and reuse the main characters. On the positive side the tone and feel of the characters feels consistent with the books. World building, character development action all very solid. The first story was probably the best of the bunch, showing the primary character from Tales of Einarinn - the thief/gambler Livak before the the first book - younger and less experienced.
There are a couple of negatives the first and most important is that this collection doesn't stand alone that well. Without reading the series it is based around the reader probably won't get as much from it. Secondly there isn't a central theme as such, the stories are largely independent of each other with no separate theme of their own, something that was a slight disappointment. Still on the whole I enjoyed this collection and would recommend it.
